What stories do you tell yourself?
Is life happening to you or for you?
One day this a young man driving down the road on his way home after a long day of work. He was exhausted. After coming up around a curve, he noticed a little old lady on the side of road with a flat tire.
He thought to himself, “I bet she called for help and someone is one the way.”
Then he remembered, “Doing the right thing is always the right thing.” So, he turned around and went to help her.
The little old lady was overcome with joy. She had forgotten her phone at home and this young man was the only person who had stopped. As he finished putting her spare tire on, the old lady asked, “How much can I pay you for your help.”
The young man smiled and said, “Nothing. Just pay it forward and think of me when you do.”
She just smiled and said, “I will do that. By the way, my name is Betty.”
Later that evening the old lady stopped into a diner on her way home. Her server was about eight months pregnant and was exhausted after a long day of work. While chatting with the server, Betty asked:
“Why are you working so hard on your feet when you’re eight months pregnant?”
The server said, “I have to. My husband and I are low on money and we need every bit before the baby gets here.”
After Betty left, the server went over to clean the table and noticed four one-hundred dollar bills sitting under the bill. A note was left saying, “I hope this helps ~Betty”
Later that night the server got home and was sharing the wonderful news. Her husband just smiled and laughed. She was a bit confused and asked, “Why are you laughing?”
He said, “I know Betty.”
Like attracts like.
This was one of my favorite tweets of the past week because it’s so true. But it’s also something that not everyone wants to acknowledge. When going after our dreams we can’t be concerned about what people will say or think. We have to surround ourselves with other motivated people who help us believe and realize it’s possible!
What we THANK about, we bring about!
Gratitude is essential for attracting what we like, what we want to see more of. Go to YouTube and type in gratitude. Type in celebrities or famous people talking about gratitude. All of the greats understand how powerful the acknowledgement of our blessings are. When we acknowledge them we feel appreciation, which increases our energy, thus bringing more of what we’re grateful for in our lives. Thoughts are real things.
Think about the people from your past. Who became successful? Who didn’t? Who did you follow and associate with? When I was in 7th or 8th grade I began noticing some of my friends were beginning to hang around kids who were making bad decisions. Parents were never around, and these kids were already smoking and drinking. I could’ve joined in but I choose to distance myself and hang around others.
Towards the end of high school people in our group of friends began to use drugs, and some of them we’re pretty hard. Again I could’ve joined the party, but my heart and intuition told me to hang around other people.
Like Attracts Like
We all want to be happy but sometimes we’re too worried about pleasing or not upsetting others, so we put our own happiness and well-being at stake. We become who we associate with. It’s okay to cut people out of your life. Find people who lift you up to their level, rather than dragging you down. Stay true to your heart and intuition, it knows what’s best.
Here are five keys to attracting more of what you want and like in your life:
- Try to see the best in everyone. It will boomerang. If you look for the best in others, others will see the best version of you.
- Speak it. Talk about the likes and interests of your life. You’ll be surprised at how many people want to help, and at how many times you meet people on the same path as you. (There are NO coincidences)
- Focus on the positive. Read last week’s post on what happens with Garbage Going In
- Associate with people you want to be like. Find people of similar mindset and goals in life. Same mindset = same results
- Live purposefully. Don’t waste your life.
“The purpose of life is live a life of purpose.”
As always, thanks for reading, have a great week, and be an RGP today!
